Prasanna Group to run buses in Jalgaon

Intercity bus transport operations major Prasanna Tourism, which runs the Metro Link service connecting Pune and Mumbai and also a number of other cities, has bagged the 10-year concession to run city buses in the municipal corporation areas of Jalgaon in North Maharashtra.
The Prasanna Bus Links Pvt Ltd (PBL), a special purpose vehicle company formed by the Prasanna Group for the city bus business, has rolled out operations on 15 August in Jalgaon. Prasanna Patwardhan, managing director of the company told TOI that 20 mini buses have been introduced in the service initially and the fleet will be expanded in stages. "The 20 mini buses introduced in the first lot are 28 seaters and 10 larger buses with seating capacity of 44 will be added shortly," Patwardhan said.
Patwardhan said the company had bid for the concession under a private public partnership concept promoted by Jalgaon Municipal Transport Undertaking (JMTU) on the lines of a scheme proposed in the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The proposal envisages involvement of private concessionaires in running the service under a charter defined by JMTU, Patwardhan said, adding that the basic norms for routes, frequency, fares and types of buses are all according to the mandate given by the local transport body. The only element controlled by the concessionaire is staffing, he said.
