Land acquisition on for 7 airports in Maharashtra

The land acquisition process for seven airports in Maharashtra has been started and will gain momentum by mid-October after the Assembly polls, a top official of Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd said.

"Land acquisition has already started but it is being delayed due to the election code of conduct (now in force)," the company's Vice-Chairman and Managing Director R C Sinha said.

Airports are to be constructed at Shirdi, Sholapur, Pune, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Amravati and Gadhchiroli with a total investment of around Rs 4,500-crores, Sinha said.

He said land acquisition at Shirdi and Sholapur would be finalised in the next 4-5-months.

"The Airport Development Authority will invest Rs 3,000-crore for Pune airport alone. International competitive bidding is to be done for the project," Sinha said adding that land acquisition process for the same will commence after the elections.
