jalgaon :- Prisoner says jail staff stole his undergarments, paste

Jalgaon (Maharashtra), Sep 27 (IANS) A bizarre case of theft of undergarments, biscuits and toothpaste has been lodged by police in Maharashtra against the superintendent and three employees of a local district jail, an official said here Monday.
The matter came to light when a jail inmate complained that his personal belongings were missing and insisted that the police be summoned to investigate.

When the police reached the jail Sunday, the inmate complained that his personal cash Rs.480 ($10), two underwears, two vests, a toothpaste tube and some biscuit packets were missing.

The police lodged a complaint against jail superintendent B. Namdeo Dhole, and other employees - Mahadev S. Pawar, Vijay N. Netkar and Ghulam R. Patel.

Taking serious cognisance of the issue, the district police have slapped cases under various sections of the Indian Penal Code against the four accused.

'All the accused are currently absconding and we hope to arrest them soon,' said the official from the local police station.

The Jalgaon jail is situated behind the office of the district collector in the heart of the city.
