jalgaon :- Chavan allowed to select his candidate

Beleaguered chief minister Ashok Chavan has been given the right to select his own candidate for the Legislative Council seat of Nanded that will go polls on November 27. State Congress committee led by Manikrao Thakre authorised Chavan in this regard at its meeting at Tilak Bhavan on Monday.
Chavan too attended the meeting. In another decision, the party extended its support to Nationalist Congress Party’s Sudhir Tambe in Nashik.

Congress also approved NCP’s proposal to have a pact for the Kolhapur mayor elections. Congress has emerged as the single largest party in Kolhapur followed by the NCP and its ally. The parties fought polls independently.

The polls will be held in Jalgaon, Sangli-Satara, Nanded, Yavatmal, Pune and Bhandara-Gondia, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Konkan (teachers constituencies) and Amravati and Nashik (graduates constituencies).

Retirement of existing legislators will create the vacancies. Of the 11 seats, NCP has six  —Sangli-Satara, Nanded, Yavatmal, Pune and Bhandara-Gondia and Aurangabad and the remaining are independents.
