Tussle on water division in State

:
Maharashtra State government has issued an ordinance banning storing and blocking River water in Kolhapur type dam in North Maharashtra region’s 5 Rivers. The order bans blocking water from Girana, Mausam (Malegaon), Aram (Baglan, Nashik), Panjhra and Kan (Dhule) Rivers. This may impact farmers on the River basin areas not being able to utilise the River water for irrigation purposes and increase their dependence on water lifting from Governmental sources.
The State Government decision on this reference has come to assure industrial sector of ample water availability in State for setting up new industries. Jalgaon district’s lifeline Waghur dam has over 60% water reservation for industrial use. The newly starting electricity distribution Company project at Deep Nagar has equal demands of raising this level. The dam is still availing only drinking water supplies to Jalgaon city and has not benefited agricultural segment yet. The order has prioritise water division with highest level for drinking followed by industrial use and then agriculture and has also ended the water resources tribunal water distribution rights and compels farmers to follow with no legal battle allowed on all decisions in the reference.
